Maintenance of Your New Swingset

Posted on Jun 01, 2011 under Home | No Comment

Your new swingset has arrived and you either installed it yourself or paid someone else to do. Now you are watching your kids have fun for the first of countless play sessions to come. You may think your work is done, but that’s not the case. You are going to need to take care of the equipment if you want to keep it safe for your kids to use.

Check the owners manual for guidelines as to how often you need to inspect the swingset parts and equipment. It should also include a schedule and instructions for oiling appropriate parts and give tips on removing rust or otherwise cleaning the various materials.

A basic inspection is going to check that all bolts, nuts and screws are tight and that all the ropes, chains, and individual parts are clean and working properly. You will want to check for any indications of rust on metal parts, splinters or cracks on wood, and cracks and tears on plastic or rubber. Cloth swings will eventually become threadbare.

It is important than any damaged parts be replaced immediately. If that’s not possible, you will want to restrict use of that equipment until it can be repaired. You can hire a handyman to deal with more complicated repairs, but you should be able to make simple replacements and fixes on your own.
