India’s Woodstock
Posted on Nov 02, 2009 under Travel | No CommentHeritage hotels are a unique way to see a place. They offer luxury accommodations in historic places, and there is a spectacular sense of the past and the future merging. The history of the building comes through, while there are also simultaneously all the fantastic conveniences of contemporary living, and it’s a great place to feel as though you’ve woken up into a dream. India is like a dream anyway, or so it seems to many visitors, offering a glimpse into a very old series of cultures and traditions, that are continuing to evolve in dizzying and beautiful ways. It’s a fantastic place to say, and a wonderful option is the heritage hotel. India has many realities existing at once, and the realities represented here are some of the most delicious.
In any city, it’s a pleasure to wake up in sumptuousness, where gorgeous design meets your eye, first thing in the morning. The days just get better from here, with magnificent food prepared by skilled chefs who like to please. When you’re on vacation, you can take as long as you like, and there are new adventures always waiting for you at every turn. There are a multitude of attractions, and whether your tastes tend toward shopping and fashion, visual arts, or performance, there’s plenty for you here. For music, it’s an amazing place. Indian music is popular all over the world, and there are Indian music events in nearly every large urban center, from Bahia to Ontario, and it’s especially splendid to hear it in its own home.
One of the most exciting music events in the world is happening at the Eastwind Music Festival, held in New Dehli. It’s in its very early years, but is already being touted as India’s Woodstock. They feature 60 bands on 4 stages, and one mosh pit, and the selection here is excellent. This isn’t folklore or traditional sounds played for tourists, but a very contemporary festival with a contemporary edge and sensibility. They feature plenty of local bands, as well as work from Brazil, Australia, and Mexico, making it a truly international forum for musicians to get together and feed each other in front of very happy crowds. It’s also one of the Green festivals, focusing on the environment, and joining in a call for a global consciousness that is exciting and uniting. Check it out!
