The island can be very popular at the hoilday for folks looking for some sun and relaxation instead of the regular hustle and bustle of the holidays at home. Through the winter crowds can be large as weary northern dwellers go looking for sun and relaxation out of the grey cold winter. Summers are warm here the day time temps in the 100’s  but generally the breeze is cooling and the evening are beautiful. Cool mornings are good for walks and hiking followed by breakfast at an out door beach cafe. Follow that with a little shopping before the temperatures soar and then you’ll be ready from some sun and cool water during the hottest part of the day. The perhaps a little nap and on to dinner and experiencing the exciting night life.

New York’s Ethnic Side

New York City as many diverse ethnic neighborhoods to explore. Most of these are in lower Manhattan, the southern part of the island. At the very tip of the island is Battery Park. From there you can see the Statue of Liberty and catch a ferry to visit Liberty Island and also catch the ferry to Staten Island. Also in lower Manhattan are many ethnic neighborhoods with a diversity of foods and shopping experiences to had a short walk from 4 star hotels New York. The largest ethnic community in lower Manhattan is China town. The streets are lined with shops touting wears, food and spices from China. The smells of Chinese foods are in the air with many eateries specializing in regional Chinese foods. The shops offer everything form everyday house hold goods to exotic foods, gifts and herbs. Just turning a corner her can take you into another world. Around the corner from China town are neighborhoods with Russian immigrants. Shop windows here feature Russian and Slavic arts and crafts like nesting dolls and paper cuttings. The foods and spices of this region are available here, resturaunts offer foods popular in Russia and that area. Mix in you find Ukrainian art and in the spring the famous Ukrainian Easter eggs. This diversity gives the visitor the feeling and flavor of being in another country without leaving the island of Manhattan, you don’t need a passport of plane ticket. There is much to d in these ares from watching the people, learning about other cultures, seeing art and hand work indicative of various areas of the world. A visit to lower Manhattan is definitely in order when visiting New York City. Getting a taste of the world while never leaving the island without a passport or an airline ticket.
